Robert
Biale Vineyards - The Biale family, immigrants
from Northern Italy, began growing grapes in Napa in the
1930’s – Zinfandel only. Zinfandel, California’s
adopted grape, was widely planted by immigrants throughout
the State’s history as a highly flavorful red grape
well-suited for the climate. Each harvest, the Biale’s
fruit was routinely sold for bulk wine. For decades before
the global demand for Napa Valley wine, one winery, the
Napa Valley Co-Op winery, processed almost half of Napa’s
grapes. Before big companies moved in, most of Napa’s
fruit was grown by local farmers like the Biales. In fact,
prunes and walnuts were as valuable as grapes in those days,
and the Biale farm produced its share along with eggs and
vegetables

Pahlmeyer
Winery - Finding himself reading more wine
journals than law journals, trial attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer
decided to pursue his dream of producing a California "Bordeaux
blend." After several trips to France, Jayson, with
the aid of professors of viticulture and oenology at the
University of Bordeaux, isolated the best clones of each
of the "classic" Bordeaux and red varietals: Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec.
Jayson, in turn, had the clones imported into California
and used them to plant a Napa Valley vineyard in 1980.

Moss
Creek Winery - The Moskowite Ranch vineyards
lie in Capell Valley, a small, cool mountain valley located
in the Napa Valley hills directly east of Oakville. Nestled
against Atlas Peak, the vineyard ranges in elevation from
835 to 900 feet. Vineyard plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Zinfandel.
The vineyards source grapes to several renowned Napa Valley
wineries; including Markham, Raymond, Terraces and Saddleback
Cellars. These 33-year-old vineyards are planted in a well
drained, loam soil that is riddled with rock and obsidian.
The vineyard maturity, soil types and estate farming practices
combine to produce exceptional low yielding fruit.

Lynch
Vineyards - In 1995 Dan Lynch cleared 5 acres
of hilly terrain from his 18-acre parcel of chaparral-covered
land on lower Spring Mountain, in the heart of the Spring
Mountain appellation. The first vines were planted - 2.5
acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, an acre each of Syrah and Sangiovese,
and a half-acre of Merlot for blending - on what is now
known as "Lynch Knoll" Located above St. Helena
on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, which
separate the Napa and Sonoma valleys, Lynch Knoll lies in
the district that is the coolest and wettest in the Napa
Valley and has some of its steepest terrain.

Trefethen
Vineyards - Designed and built in 1886 by a
Scottish sea captain Hamden McIntyre, the winery was originally
known as Eshcol. He designed it to use a "gravity-flow"
system. A horse-drawn winch would bring grapes to the third
floor for crushing; gravity would then carry the juice to
the second floor for fermenting and eventually to the first
floor for aging. The winery was heralded in the local papers
of the time as a "model farm". Known as the "Big
Four", is the small cluster of McIntyre-designed wineries
-- including Greystone (now the West Coast campus of the
Culinary Institute of America), Far Niente, and Inglenook
(now the Niebaum-Coppola Winery).

Elke
Vineyards grows Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and
Merlot on its vineyards in Napa Valley. They also grow Pinot
Noir on their 80-acre Donnelly Creek vineyard in the Anderson
Valley, the source of all Elke Pinot Noir. It all started
with a desire to produce a food-friendly Pinot Noir to share
with friends and family, and has evolved into a passion
for producing an affordable, drinkable range of wines that
express the soul of that classic, finicky grape, Pinot Noir.
The not-so-secret secret of Elke Pinot Noir is the three
separate Pinot Noir clones grown in the Donnelly Creek vineyards.
One Pinot clone provides the rich berry flavors, one Pinot
clone the earthy cedar and spice backbone, and the third
Pinot clone adds color, texture, and complexity.

Destino
Wines is owned by Christopher Calkins. Chris
has been in the food business most of his life. First as
a restaurateur and then as co-founder of a regional chain
of specialty coffee stores. He has been passionate about
wine for 30 years. In 1997 Chris had an amazing bottle of
Le Montrachet and a light went on in his head. That wine
was the inspiration to produce an ultra-premium California
Chardonnay. A long time love of Napa Valley Cabernets completed
the vision and the concept of Destino Wines. Chris has the
same approach to winemaking that he has had to everything
he has done. It is with intensity, passion, and an uncompromising
quest for quality.

Crane
Family Vineyards - Nestled on the instep of
Napa's Mount Veeder, our Don Raffaele Estate was named for
my late father, who introduced me to the art of winemaking
many years ago. As a gentleman farmer, I have grown grapes
and made wine on this hillside estate for almost fifteen
years, first as an amateur and presently as a professional
vintner. The microclimate of our small valley is one of
the best kept secrets in the Napa Valley. Its terroir is
similar to esteemed vineyards of the Pomerol region of Bordeaux
and imparts intense and unique flavors to the grapes grown
here. It has been our great pleasure over the years to share
with our family, friends and club members, the best that
we can take from the land that is in our stewardship.

Bighorn
Cellars was founded by Bill Hill to combine
his two ambitions -- developing ultra premium vineyard sites
and handcrafting limited quantities of exceptional wines
from the regions where they grow best. Bighorn's mission
is to produce wines from exceptional vineyards in the best
growing regions for each varietal. For example, we make
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Napa Valley, Chardonnay
from Carneros and Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast and Willamette
Valley, Oregon. Bill Hill's extensive experience developing
'Grand Cru' vineyards in many different geographies makes
this unique multi-regional approach possible. Look for additional
releases in new regions in the near future.

Altamura
Vineyards and Winery, established in 1985 by
Frank and Karen Altamura, is the only winery located in
Wooden Valley. Stag's Leap Winery, Pahlmeyer and Caymus
purchase grapes from this area, which is within the Napa
Valley appellation, yet Altamura is the first to capture
Wooden Valley's special characteristics in a bottling. Napa
Valley natives Frank and Karen have a decidedly hands-on
approach to every step of the growing and winemaking process.
Thus, a natural production limit is established and the
wines reflect the Altamura's deep commitment to reflecting
the terroir of their Wooden Valley Ranch.

Arns
Winery is located on the hillside east of the
historic city of St. Helena, CA, in the heart of the Napa
Valley. The 160 acre parcel sits at an elevation of 800
feet above the valley floor and below the Howell Mountain
Appellation. The soil for the nine acre all-Cabernet vineyard
is Red Aiken Loam, which was planted in the mid-to-late
1960's. This parcel has a history of grape growing going
back into the 1800's. Our wines represent selections from
nine different blocks, with clones from Bordeaux and Napa
Valley (and one of unsure origins). These vineyard blocks
consist of up to 2,900 vines per acre with a vertical shoot
positioned trellis. At the present, there is some planting
and replanting going on, and in the future our goal of 2,000
cases should be realized.
